Sofa Makeover

Before ......

After....

Finally it has come through. :) I have two loveseats, which I call my sofa set. They are three years old. They were originally bought from Ikea for around $300.00. They have been growing older with my baby. It was time for a new sofa set. I looked into the market found some nice once but they were too expensive. Then I decided to reface the existing ones with new fabric.

This is how it looked after I took the sofas apart. Also the tools I used are shown in the pictures.

I knew that it will be a lot of work; especially with a toddler running around. I asked my mom to help, which she did. First I was thinking of making a pattern then work with the real fabric, but my mom did not want to make three when we would only need to make two. She is like an expert on stitching, so I went along with what she said.

I took apart the sofa. Before I decided to open it I made sure that I will be able to put it back together. Then I measured all the parts and cut out fabric. Then mom sewed them together. Getting the right fit was most difficult. There were times when I had to open one piece a several times.

After all the pieces were done sewing I put them on the parts of the sofa and secured them with staples. Then I put together the sofa. An important point to note is that I did not remove any of the original cover.

Now let’s talk about the cost…. I used $50.00 for the fabric. I bought 14 yards and still have 4 yards left. That will be enough for cushion covers. Mine and mom's labor were free. It took one week to finish, but if I did not have the baby running around I believe I could have done it in 2 to 3 days.

Anyone have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at khalytory@gmail.com or leave me a comment here.
Thank you all….

  11. I love the fabric choice you made.At first I thought it was the shiny retro fabric. But, sigh of relief, realized it wasn't.

  12. @ Renee I looked for a while to find the fabric, however I did buy a shiny fabric for coushion covers. With a baby around I figured that the pillows will get must wear. I do not know how they will look; I will start working on then very soon. If you can please follow me.... I will love your input. Thank you for visiting my blog.
